June 23, 2021 - This work is a passion of mine, but I still have to pay the bills with my full time job. Still, my twice-delayed video series is back in development this summer.
Also, I learned the contact form on this site hasn't been working. Sorry about that! While I try getting it debugged, you can contract me through my LinkedIn page.
January 1st, 2019 - After five long years of work, over 100,000 words rejected, and more revisions than I can count, the book is finally released!
This effort is about solutions to some of our biggest problems. Please read below for the brief introduction.
There is a specific reason why many relationships fail.
It's the reason why careers get stuck below their potentials.
It’s the same reason why we’re so likely to be misunderstood by others, many of our professional goals fail, and a society turns against itself.
That reason is solidarity.
Solidarity refers to the general level of respect, understanding, and regard we have for another. It is a far deeper concept than it first appears and it has personally consequences when we don’t understand it.
Through automatic processes in the brain, a higher level of solidarity can make us seem more intelligent, funny, and attractive. Conversely, lower solidarity makes us seem unrelatable, threatening, and undesirable to have around.
Solidarity has major consequence for our relationships, our careers, and society each and every day.
Without awareness, we have less control over the consequences of our actions. In very real ways, a lack of awareness means a lack of choice.
When we understand, we gain the ability to choose what we want for ourselves, our careers, and the organizations we care about most.
I'm A. L. Ranen (“ray-nen”) McLanahan, an engineer, teacher, and speaker with specialization in performance management. Here is my professional profile on linkedin.
I've been speaking to businesses, to government groups, and at educational events since 2013. I even spoke to Wisconsin State Legislators at the state capitol in 2016 as a special professional development event.
During these years, The Science of Solidarity came into greater focus. I believe its message is important for all of us. Hence, the reason for all of this.
I'm developing introductory videos now. The first of them should be completed in September. They will contain fundamentals and immediate applications from the book.
The book is available now. It covers a substantial part of my Science of Solidarity workshops, and, in several places, goes deeper.
It was written to be a quick, entertaining read. (After all, if something is long and boring, who is going to want to read it?)
Read the book? Want me to come talk about solidarity (or another performance management topic like communication efficiencies or how to motivate the unmotivated) at your organization? Contact me here.
All inquires, serious or otherwise, are welcome.
It's been said that the greatest happiness comes from working towards a goal bigger than one's self.
For me, this project is that goal.
Want to support is effort? Consider sharing the book with someone who might be interested or consider me for a speaking event at your organization.
Solidarity's message is important, and your help spreading its message means more to me than I can express. So thank you.
